Chris Torch

Chris Torch is artistic director at Intercult, a production and resource unit based in Stockholm, Sweden. Founded in 1996, it is a publicly financed institution focusing on cultural policy, intercultural production and education. Intercult is the executive producer since 2003 for the major European arts project SEAS, which brings attention to harbour cities through cultural events around all of Europe’s seacoasts. Torch earlier initiated SHIKASTA, the first multicultural ensemble at the Swedish National Touring Theatre/Riksteatern. He was the company’s first artistic director (1992-1995). Torch was born and raised in an italian-american family in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. After a few years in the USA and Italy as an actor with the legendary Living Theatre, he settled in Sweden in 1977. There he formed the independent theatre Jordcirkus, where he worked for 13 years as an actor, director and stage designer. Torch currently serves as Vice President for Culture Action Europe.
