Bernard Foccroulle

Organist, composer and concert performer, Bernard Fouccroulle has an internationally recognised musical career with a repertoire extending from Ancient to contemporary music. He took over the direction of the Monnaie Opera House in Brussels in 1992 and in 1993 founded the association ‘Culture and Democracy’ which militates for greater participation in artistic life. From 1996– 1997 he chaired the group responsible for Brussels 2000, European City of Culture. Since November 2005 he has been chairman of the ‘Opera Europe’ network, which is a member of Culture Action Europe, and which brings together over 90 opera houses from over 30 European countries. In March 2006 he was appointed Director General of the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
